+ OPAL CARE +
Heres a little information and care Instructions for you 🙂
They were discovered in the 1990s in Ethiopia and are formed in volcanic rock, in contrast to Australian Opals that are found in sedimentary rock. This formation in volcanic rock make it more porous and absorb water in a manner similar to a sponge, and this “hydrophane” property affects the transparency of Ethiopian opal when immersed in water. They are also called the “living stone”.
An opal can be worn everyday with some care!
+ Keep Your Ethiopian Opals Away from Water and Liquids. Such as: washing hands, showering, luxurious baths, doing dishes, running through sprinklers, hanging out in shark cages, surfing etc.
+ Do Not Expose Your Opals to Extreme Changes in Temperature.
+ Avoid liquid chemicals around your Ethiopian opals.
+Avoid manual labour when wearing your opals.
+Short-term contact with plain water does not harm gem quality Ethiopian opals. If the opal gets wet from rain or other cause, simply dry off surface with a clean microfiber cloth or anything you have on hand and then let the stone naturally air dry for 24 hours – any absorbed water will leave the stone and its play of color should be restored to its previous state without any cracking. Do not attempt to speed up the natural air-drying process by applying heat of any kind.
If you can do these things, you opal will last you a lifetime.
+ JEWELRY CARE +
We do our best to create heirloom quality hand crafted pieces. Our jewelry is designed to be sturdy yet delicate so please handle with care. Opals are beautiful and delicate and need to the above special treatment.
Do your best to keep it in a safe place (the box or bag it came in will do great).
Don’t wear jewelry while swimming, bathing, and keep away from moisturizers and lotions.
Keeping your jewels in a box will keep them from tarnishing and remain their brightest for longer. Sterling silver can tarnish over time, but you can clean your jewelry by washing it gently with dish soap and a toothbrush. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel.
We want you to LOVE your new piece of jewelry for a very long time.
+ 14K GOLDFILL INFO/CARE +
We choose to work with 14k gold-filled because it allows us to offer top-of-the-line quality at an affordable price. The thick outer layer of gold makes it highly durable and safe for people with allergies or sensitive skin. “Gold-filled” is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th, or 5% pure gold by weight. It’s a strictly regulated process that involves pressure bonding multiple layers of solid 14k gold with extreme heat over a core of high quality jeweller’s brass resulting in a durable, quality real gold product.
+ 14K GOLD WITH STONES INFO/CARE +
Many of our pieces are created with 14Karat Solid yellow (or white gold upon request)
This is our favourite metal to work with as with its characteristics are quality, longevity and beauty.
Cleaning 14k Gold Rings with Turquoise or Opals
While solid gold and diamonds can withstand regular cleanings with dish soap and ammonia, special precautions need to be taken for gold jewelry containing porous semi-precious gemstones like opals or turquoise.
- Mix a mild liquid dish soap with warm, not hot water. Blue Dawn works great for this, if you’re using another soap, check to make sure it is not moisturizing as the excess chemicals can cause a film to accumulate on the jewelry.
- Dip a cotton swab or soft cloth into the solution and gently clean the jewelry. Do not soak turquoise or opals in the warm water solution – they are porous stones and will absorb water.
- Dry the jewelry with a polishing cloth.
- Never use ammonia or hand sanitizer on gold jewelry containing turquoise or opals. It will cause irreversible damage to the stones. Also remember that an ultrasonic machine will damage these delicate stones.
